MMA update: Strikeforce wants Fedor, UFC/Zuffa not so much
All the latest news in mixed martial arts!
--Strikeforce boss Scott Coker told MMAJunkie.com that he'd like to bring Fedor Emelianenko back to the promotion, despite the MMA legend's near $2 million contract. Oh, he's also gone 1-3 in Strikeforce and coming off of three straight losses. UFC President Dana White hasn't been too keen on bringing Emelianenko back to any promotion under the Zuffa banner.
A couple of years ago, Emelianenko's management company and promotion he has stake in, M-1 Global, refused to sign a lucrative deal with the UFC, citing the need for "co-promotion." The UFC doesn't co-promote with anyone (rightfully so) and White had to hate seeing M-1 Global banners all over the arena Sat. night in Hoffman Estates. Heck, WrestlingObserver.com's Dave Meltzer reported Showtime announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr. had to make this "public service announcements" boasting M-1 Global's success.
If y'all think that White is gonna let that happen, then you don't know the UFC President.
--Referee Herb Dean may have gotten some flack for stopping Fedor vs. Hendo early, but Dean actually missed Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante's opponent tapping out in the second round. Cavalcante won via decision anyway, but that fight was his before the judges had a chance to decide.
