Strikeforce: Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza vs. Derek Brunson Result

Don't blink.

Middleweight bout: Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza vs. Derek Brunson

Round One:

Ronaldo Souza is the former Strikeforce middleweight champion, who lost to Luke Rockhold last year in a close fight. Brunson is a three-time NCAA Division II All-American wrestler. Lorenz Larkin and middleweight champion Luke Rockhold are shown in the crowd. Brunson is 3-0 in Strikeforce. He trains at Jackson's MMA. Souza is one of the all-time greats as far as dominating Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and succesfully transitioning to MMA. He has trained with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and the Nogueira Bros.

Holy crap. Souza knocks out Brunson. Brunson left himself exposed. Big shot by Souza, causing Brunson to fall face down Ric Flair-style. Ref doesn't stop it. Souza hits him again and pauses. Ref sitll doesn't stop it, so Souza finishes him with a couple more shots and lets off the gas before the idiot beard ref Mike Beltran can "officially" stop it. When a guy falls FACE DOWN after a big shot, stop it. Not the best night for MMA refs. Great night for the former champ.

Official Decision: Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza (16-3, 1 NC) def. Derek Brunson (9-2) via knockout (punches) at :41 of Round One.

Souza doesn't call out Rockhold, but says he loves San Diego. Actually, it really is a beautiful city if I do say so myself...

Souza gets his first knockout win.
