UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes

Featherweight bout: Felipe Arantes def. Antonio Carvalho via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

Preliminary card on FX, starting at 8pm/ET, 5pm/PT

Welterweight bout: Mike Pyle vs Ricardo Funch 

ROUND ONE:

Mario Yamasaki is our referee. Great production and presentation in this FX broadcast. Funch throws a couple combos and a leg kick. Pyle throws a leg kick himself. They tie up and trade knees before separating. Leg kick by Pyle. Body kick by Funch. This is Funch's first fight in the UFC since 2010. Straight right by Pyle connect. Thai clinch. Big knee sends Funch down on the ground. Huge shots on the ground by Pyle, who receives a bucnh of boos. Funch is busted open. 

Official Decision: Mike Pyle def. Ricardo Funch via TKO at 1:22 of Round One.

Featherweight bout: Yuri Alcantara vs. Michihiro Omigawa

ROUND ONE:

They tie up. Knee to Omigawa's body. Body kick followed by a nice combo by Alcantara. Spinning backfist by Omigawa grazes Alcantara. Great energy from the Brazilian crowd. Good combo by Alcantara. And a solid left hand. Misses a head kick. Omigawa is keeping his hands low. Not good for his face. Thai clinch by Alcantara. Knee to the head. He tags Omigawa, who looks dazed and confused. Like the movie. Omigawa tried the takedown, but Alcantara took his back. Omigawa switches position and gets on top in Alcantara's guard. Crowd is booing. Now on half guard. Armbar by Alcantara. It looks like he tapped. Alcantara says he did. Joe Rogan says UFC matchmaker Joe Silva thinks he saw him tap too. Somehow Omigawa and his arm are alive and well.

ROUND TWO:

Omigawa is OK, as is his arm. Alcantara knocks Omigawa down again. Full mount by Alcantara. He then takes his bakc and works for the rear-naked choke, but can't get it. Omigawa is hurt and his ear is bleeding, although I can't say it's Sakuraba style. Sorry, Omigawa, but this is also Alcantara's round. He looks beat.

10-9 Alcantara

ROUND THREE:

They touch gloves. Alcantara eats a left. Alcantara looks tired. Superman punch by Omigawa. Omigawa tries to take him down, but is stuffed. Swing and miss by Alcantara. Same for Omigawa. Spinning backfist grazes Alcantara. Nice yet labored combo by Alcantara. Omigawa eats some big shots that pop the crowd. Omigawa is one durable dude. Omigawa's ear is bleeding again. Head kick by Alcantara. Omigawa is coming forward and walking through Alcantara's shots. They tie up against the fence. Takedown by Omigawa. Full guard.

Omigawa pushed his forearm against Alcantara's face. He's hearing the boos. Elbow by Omigawa. He's gotta turn up the heat here and finish him because he's already lost two rounds. Rogan urging Alcantara to throw up an armbar. I agree. Ref stands them up with 15 seconds left. Omigawa looked for the takedown, but Alcantara reversed and ends up on full mount to close the round.
