Lightweight bout: Mac Danzig vs. Efrain Escudero

Round One: 

We interviewed Escudero earlier in the month, who said he knew Danzig would throw down unlike Volkmann. We'll see. They touch gloves. Goldberg notes this is the six meeting between TUF alums. Clinch and knees to the body by Danzig. Escudero pressed up against the cage. Escudero presses Danzig now/ Danzig trying to control the head. Escudero briefly attempts a takedown. Nice short elbow by Escudero. Danzig takes Escudero down. Heel hook by Escudero. Danzig escapes and nearly takes the back. Escudero does a good defensive job by tucking his chin. They get back to their feet after Danzig lets him up. 

Leg kick by Escudero. Big swing and miss by Escudero. His back is close to the fence. He's gotta be careful of Danzig, who keeps coming forward. They trade combos. Thai clinch by Escudero. Break. Leg kick by Escudero. Body shot by Danzig. Escudero should've tried to use his wrestling and take him down. Danzig tries to take Escudero down with a waistlock, but maintains his balance. Danzig clinches Escudero and they break. Crowd does a mild USA chant. Escudero is Mexican-American, ATL. UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson is in Escudero's corner. Escudero drops down for a takedown. Stuffed. They break. Leg kick by Esucdero. End of round. Tough round to call. 

10-9 Danzig 

Round Two: 

Lightweight contender Gray Maynard is in Danzig's corner. Good right by Escudero. Left hook. Danzig locks him up againsst the fence. Clinch. Knee to Escudero's head. Knees to Escudero's thighs. Danzig can't get the trip. They break. Thirty-one clinch strikes for Danzig compared to Escudero's 22. Crowd is booing. Danzig looks more aggressive and comfortable on his feet. Leg kick by Danzig. Escudero misses an uppercut. Danzig clinches with Escudero. They break. Danzig presses Escudero up against the cage again. They break. Danzig hits Escudero, who smiles. Crowd ain't smilin'. Danzig presses him against the cage. Escudero looks for a takeodwn. Can't get it. Round over. 

10-9 Danzig

Round Three: 

Joe Rogan says UFC matchmaker Joe Silva pointed out Danzig has a swollen ankle, possibly from that heel hook attempt in round one. Ouch. Danzig seems to be moving fine, but it looks like someone hid an Easter egg there. God bless his toughness. Danzig is throwing kicks with his bad legs. Knee by Escudero. Superman punch by Danzig. This is a close fight and one of them needs to have a strong showing or finish. No guarantees with judges. Danzig presses Escudero up against the cage. Danzig has the advantage, but hasn't been dominant this fight. But he has dictated the pace. Danzig hops on Escudero and tries to take his back. Can't get it. They break.
