UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir (FX prelim)

MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV

May 26, 2012

Heavyweight bout: Stefan Struve (23-5) vs. Lavar Johnson (17-5)

Official Decision: Stefan Struve (24-5) def. Lavar Johnson (17-6) via armbar submission at 1:05 of Round One.

Don't expect this one to go long. Johnson is 2-0 in the UFC and just fought two weeks ago at UFC on FOX 3, demolishing Pat Barry--but not before getting nearly submitted by arguably Zuffa's worst ground specialist. Well, besides Johnson, who told Struve "save the jiu-jitsu for BJJ tournaments." That doesn't bode well for him. The only problem is Struve has yet to fully take advantage of his Jon Jones-eque reach and 6'11" frame, as he's been knocked out already a few times in the UFC. And at age 24 with as many fights as this kid has, that's not good for his long-term health. Not saying fight a safe fight. Just try to not take as much brain damage, homie, because if Johnson aka Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's love child connects, he's going down.

Round One:

In a perfect world, Johnson would knockout Struve via Rock Bottom or submit him via Sharpshooter, but unfortunately, he only looks like The Rock and this isn't professional wrestling. Struve has won two straight and looks to make it three. He beat Johnson's last opponent Pat Barry and Roy Nelson's opponent tonight Dave Herman in that mini win streak. Johnson has also won two straight.

Johnson tags Struve with an uppercut. They tie up against the cage. Struve pulls guard. Johnson gets caught in an armbar. Tap out. There goes the Lavar Johnson hype train. Three straight wins for Struve.

Official Decision: Stefan Struve (24-5) def. Lavar Johnson (17-6) via armbar submission at 1:05 of Round One.
