UFC on FOX 4: Shogun vs. Vera

Light heavyweight bout: Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (20-6) vs. Brandon Vera (12-5, 1 NC) - Five round main event

I don't think it can be said anymore than it already has. A win by Vera will revitalize his career beyond belief. Make that win somehow, someway, more impressive than Machida's and he gets a title shot. Of course, he's got the former PRIDE and UFC champion standing in the way, who is rightfully the heavy favorite. Hype aside, this is an easy fight on paper for Rua. But this is MMA, right? Crap, one judge is Cecil Peoples so anything can happen if this fight goes the distance. Bruce Buffer says it's FIGHT TIME. Fight? Shogun is rocking a mushroom cloud of chest hair. Herb Dean is our referee. OK, on with the fight! 

Round One:

Body kicks by Vera. Body kick by Shogun. Big takedown by Shogun. I don't think people expected that. Half guard. Shogun pushes Vera away from the cage. Shogun controlling on top, could go for an arm triangle. Shogun in side control. Vera tries to get up to his feet and wall walk. Knee to the body of Vera. Vera gets back up and throws two high kicks. Takedown by Shogun. Vera locks in a guillotine. He's really fighting for redemption here. Shogun escapes the guillotine and attempts to pass guard. Big shots on the ground by Shogun. Vera trying to hold on and maintain half guard. Shogun is side control. Vera trying to sweep, but he gives up his back. Not smart. Hamemrfists by Shogun, who has Vera's back. Shogun has the body triangle. Vera holding on as the round ends.

Round Two:

Vera showed a lot of heart in the first round and survived, but that doesn't change the fact Shogun owned him on the ground. Strikeforce champ Ronda Rousey shown in the crowd. 

Inside leg kick by Shogun. Shogun rocks Vera.Clinch. Big knee. Uppercuts. Vera is fighting back. He was rocked, but he's not going away. Big shots by Vera. Thigh kicks by Vera. They tie up and break. Straight left and elbow by Vera. Shogun working for the clinch. Knees by Shogun, but Vera trying to block them. Vera is taken down. Vera is bleeding. Shogun has his back, but Vera escapes. He's tagged with an uppercut. Vera fires back and is still in this fight. Right hand again by Shogun. Elbow by Shogun. Big shot by Vera. They tie up. Both fighters bleeding now. Crowd is chanting VERA.
