UFC on FX 3: Johnson vs. McCall at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, FL

June 8, 2012

Live Gate: $329,110 -- One of the lowest UFC live gates ever. Not the best night for the UFC business-wise.

Attendance: 6,635

Preliminary card on Facebook.com/UFC

Welterweight bout: Sean Pierson (12-6) def. Jake Hecht (11-4) via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28)

Lightweight bout: Henry Martinez (9-2) def. Bernardo Magalhaes (11-3) via split decision.

Preliminary card on FUEL TV

Welterweight bout: Seth Baczynski (16-6) def. Lance Benoist (6-1) via split decision.

Featherweight bout: Matt Grice (15-4) def. Leonard Garcia (19-9-1) via unanimous decision (30-27 across the board). Grice dominant against a veteran everyone thought would win.

Bantamweight bout: Dustin Pague (11-6) def. Jared Papazian (14-8, 1 NC) via rear-naked choke submission at 3:21 of Round One.

Lightweight bout: Tim Means (18-3-1) def. Justin Salas (10-4) via TKO (strikes) at 1:06 of Round One.

Middleweight bout: Nature Boy Buddy Roberts (12 -2) def. Caio Magalhaes (5-1) via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27. 29-28)

Welterweight bout: Mike Pierce (14-5) def. Carlos Eduardo Rocha (9-2) via split decision. Honestly, no where near a split decision. Pierce dominated him for most of the fight sans finishing Rocha.

Main card on FX

Bantamweight bout: Eddie Wineland (19-8-1) def. Scott Jorgensen (13-6) via knockout (punches) at 4:10 of Round Two. The former WEc bantamweight champion finally gets his elusive first UFC victory.

Welterweight bout: Mike Pyle (23-8-1) def. Josh Neer (33-11-1) via knockout (punch) at 4:56 of Round One. Neer was pouring it on Pyle, but he weather the storm and with one big shot knocked out Neer--facedown. Not bad for a 36-year-old, right?

Welterweight bout: Erick Silva (14-2, 1 NC) def. Charlie Brenneman (15-4) via rear naked choke submission at 4:56 of Round One. Silva is a rising prospect to say the least.

Flyweight semifinal tournament bout: Demetrious Johnson (15-2-1) def. Ian McCall (11-3-1) via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28). Mighty Mouse was just too fast and too much busier than Uncle Creepy. His wrestling significantly improved from the last fight as well. McCall was flat footed, couldn't incorporate his wrestling as much as he liked, and was even stunned in round one with a hard shot.

Johnson will fight Joseph Benavidez with the winner becoming the first ever UFC bantamweight champion.

Overall, an entertaining main card to make up for the lackluster prelims, even if only one fight had serious championship-level ramifications hanging in the balance.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the following $40,000 fight bonuses:

Knockout of The Night: Mike Pyle

Fight of The Night: Jorgensen vs. Wineland

Submission of The Night: Erick Silva
