Who walked out with the gold?

UFC Live 6 on Versus: Cruz vs. Johnson

Washington, DC

October 1, 2011

This is the final UFC on Versus show.

Preliminary card (Facebook.com/UFC)

Bantamweight bout: Walel Watson def. Joseph Sandoval via TKO. Sandoval had a red mohawk like Dan Hardy. And he lost.  Sandoval argues with the stoppage but it's a good one. Official Decision: Walel "The Gazelle" Watson (9-2) def. Joseph Sandoval (6-1) via TKO at Round One, 1:17.

Welterweight bout: Josh Neer vs. Keith Wisniewski

I'm calling Wisniewski KW in this recap. Why? Because I'm too lazy to type Wisniewski 500 times, KW has won six straight fights with 18 first round wins and 15 wins by submission. This is his first Pctagon appearance since 2005. This is also Josh Neer's UFC return since 2009. Hard to believe Neer's just 28. He's one of those dudes that's been around so long you forget their age (think of Robbie Lawler).

ROUND ONE:

Leg kick by Neer. Brief clinch by KW. Neer tries to work the clinch himself. Presses KW against the cage. Both fighters trading shots. Neer working the rib cage with some nice body shots. Left hook by KW, followed by a knee to the body. KW started slow, but he's opening up now. Neer gets pressed up against the cage, but gets out of the position. Neer trying to fire that uppercut. Double jab by Neer. KW tags Neer. Neer starting to come forward more. Crowd happily responding their efforts.

Uppercut by Neer. Neer gets pressed against the cage, but working for the clinch. Nice dirty boxing by Neer. Clinch by KW. Knees to Neer's body. Neer works for the clinch. Great short elbows by Neer. Left hook by KW.

Very close fight so far.

10-9 Wisniewski

ROUND TWO:

Neer is working the jab and pushing forward. It sounded like he said KW broke his rib with that left hook at the end of round one. We'll see how it affects him here. KW presses Neer against the cage. KW working for the clinch, but eats a couple elbows and body shots from Neer. Nice dirty boxing by Neer. Those short elbows are hurting Neer. Joe Rogan says the production truck confirmed that Neer said a couple of his ribs are broken. That sucks, but KW needs to hit some more body shots.

Short elbows by Neer and KE fires back. Body shot to Neer. Short elbow by Neer. KW should have defended those elbows, because he now has a CRIMSON MASK. KW is eating a ton of shots to the head. Neer has KW's blood on him. That sucks. Neer lost his mouthpiece and it's stuck between the cracks of the cage. THAT SUCKS. Referee BIG DAN (aka Goldberg's brother) is going nuts here. I can imagine. You would think the corner would have an extra mouthpiece. You would THINK. WTF.

They finally find the mouthpiece and clean it. Neer didn't want them to clean it. For a guy nicknamed the dentist, that sucks for your teeth. Neer keeps owning KW with those elbows. Memo to Keith: Elbowing to your head are fucking bad. DEFEND THEM. The fighters trade knees to the body. Body shots by Neer. Neer misses the uppercut. Combo by KW. Neer has a standing guillotine and KW IS FUCKING LEAKING LIKE A FAUCET (AS ROGAN SAID). GROSS. They might stop this fight.

10-9 Neer

ROUND THREE:

Damn, son. The replays show the loud ass elbow shots by Neer. The doctors decide to stop the fight.

Official Decision: Josh Neer (32-10-1) def. Keith Wisniewski (28-13-1) via TKO (cuts) at Round Two, 5:00.
