WWE main eventer in hot water over gay slur

Not the kind of press WWE wants....
WWE superstar criticized for homophobic/homosexual-offending remarks. Why does that sound too familiar?
Now TMZ has picked this up...No word on how this will the awesome angle CM Punk started last Monday night on RAW.
Via TMZ.com:
WWE bad guy CM Punk was caught on camera screaming "You homo!" at a fan during a verbal altercation in Australia today ... this as the WWE has said repeatedly they are trying to curb homophobic slurs. The wrestling organization works directly with GLAAD and even produced a series of anti-bullying commercials following incidents involving announcer Michael Cole and wrestler John Cena. Calls to GLAAD were not returned.
UPDATE: A rep for the WWE tells TMZ, "WWE does not condone this type of language or bias and we reinforce that with our talent who are independent contractors."
TSC's Take: So WWE superstars are indpedent contractors, but told what to do, say, etc. Punk would not use this kind of language on TV and obviously didn't know he was being filmed. Do I think Punk hates homosexuals? No. But I do think he used bad judgment and lingo that was more suited for 1998's WWF Attitude Era and not TV-PG WWE with GLAAD breathing down their necks. Rules are rules and common sense is common sense. Oh, "homo" can also be really, really offensive to people.
Stress on the word offensive. Please don't kill this storyline, WWE. Michael Cole tweeted f***** months ago when he should have been suspended (or fired) and he's been on TV every week. Who knows what will happen. Either way, this isn't the mainstream press WWE wants or needs.
