WWE NXT 8/23/11 Results

A pleasant surprise...

NXT on WWE.com for Aug. 23, 2011

Commentators: Todd Grisham and William Regal

Calgary, Alberta, Canada aka Hart Country.

Yes, this show is stlll on the air--on WWE.com. Don't complain. International markets actually get this show on TV.

Darren "NO DAYS OFF!" Young is trying to get Matt Striker to say he's the better man. Striker says he's been on the beach listening to Rush and that he's the past. Young is the future of WWE. Striker says he'd rather work with Young than against him. Striker offers his hand and gets attacked by Young. William Regal makes the save! Commentary and wrestling tonight! Nice "Regal" chant by the awesome Calgary crowd. Canadian wrestling fans rock. Sans the edited Benoit chants last night. Awkward...

Tyson Kidd is actually heard TALKING backstage in his locker room. I had no idea he spoke English. Or anything. Kidd is in his hometown, according to Todd Grisham. Well, he was trained in the Hart Dungeon. His locker room is trashed and he sees caligraphy on the wall. Hmmm...Yoshi Tatsu?

1. Tyson Kidd vs. Trent "I've been in WWE for over a year and still haven't been on RAW, plus I'm kinda unknown" Baretta

Loud "Let's go Tyson" chant. Shame this isn't on Smackdown. Grisham says it's probably the only city in North America that would chant that. If he had a push, that might change. I miss Kidd's flippy pseudo-hairstyle. The shaved head makes him look like a little boy that happens to wrestle like a beast. Great exchange of counters between both wrestlers. Truth: Kidd has beaten Baretta four times. Hopefully, tonight is the fifth time.

Seriously, minus the indiereffic (copyright 2011-Kevin Nash) look, Baretta's fun to watch in the ring. But he's never been on RAW or been involved remotely in any kind of storyline. Maybe on Superstars--but I blink a lot so I missed it. Regal says he has a beautiful woman from Saskatoon. He also mentions something about Bingo and knickers. Don't ask. Grisham is doing a good job about giving the five fans watching at home a history lesson on Baretta. He talks about his Long Island, NY background and how a lot of his training partners are now boxers and MMA fighters. Sweet.

Grisham says "styles make fights." I love the subtle MMA references. OUCH. Kidd DDTs Baretta from the apron onto the floor. That's gotta hurt. Good heat. Kidd legdrops Baretta on the edge of the apron and wriths in pain like he broke his ass. Maybe he did. Baretta recovers and looks like he's gonna do an Asai moonsault but turns it into a flying senton onto Kidd. OUCH...but impressive as hell. Crowd is rally behind Kidd. Superplex attempt by Baretta. CROTCHED hardcore by Kidd.

Grisham says he landed on the capital of Thailand. Ha! Frankensteiner by Kidd! Roll-up by Baretta. Kick out by Kidd! Sharpshooter attempt by Kidd. Blocked and roll-up by Baretta. Kick out by Kidd! This match is awesome. Sucks these guys aren't on RAW/Smackdown right now, but at least they're getting a great amount of time to put on a hell of a match. The wrestlers trade moves. Kidd gets control. Half Boston Crab by Kidd. Lance Storm reference by Regal. Hell ya!

Baretta escapes. Oh no the mystery Yoshi Tatsu sign is on the titantron. DDT by Baretta. He beats Tyson Kidd in his hometown. Typical WWE B.S., but the Calgary crowd should be proud of both wrestlers. Awesome, awesome match. Too bad that may have killed the crowd until Smackdown. SIGH.

Winner: Trent "I killed the crowd, but it's not my fault" Baretta

Announcers hype John Cena vs. CM Punk III highlights from RAW. They show a replay of the Titus O'Neil, Hornswoggle, Derrick "Master" Bateman, A.J. Lee, and Maxine replay.
