Welcome to Monday Night Raw! Coming to you LIVE from San Antonio Texas, en route to the 25th edition of SummerSlam!
Raw kicks off in the cold open with a recap ( please don’t let this be a trend for tonight) Aj comes out and gets too it right away making some matches for tonight, including the Big Show and Randy Orton, as well as for the first time Daniel Bryan and John Cena.
WWE Champion CM Punk talks about not having any regrets, apologizes to Raw GM AJ Lee for last week ,saying she doesn’t deserve to be disrespected, as he doesn’t deserve to be disrespected either. The apology does Punk no good however, as AJ stays with her decision to have a triple threat match for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. Punk questions if this has to do with him humiliating her a few weeks back when she proposed.
John Cena comes out says he didn’t expect Punk to be one of those guys that comes out and asks for respect all the time. Cena says you have to come out and earn it. Punk states that he saved Cena last week from the Big Show. Punk says he wants a match, he’s supposed to be in the main event. AJ leaves it to Twitter to decide Punk’s opponent. The choices being Miz, Kane, and Rey Mysterio. Thankfully Rey wins.
1. Non-title match: WWE Champion CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio
Nice back and forth match. Mysterio hits a 619 and goes for a springboard splash, but Punk gets his knees up. Punk hits the GTS for the clean win. Good TV match, but no where near the quality of their PPV clashes a couple years back.
Winner: CM Punk
Alberto Del Rio is pulling in the back in his nice Ferrari and yells at Ricardo Rodriguez.
A nice vignette for the returning Wade Barrett showing off his bare knuckle fighting background. Very Guy Richie-esque ala Snatch. Barrett also sporting a manly beard.
Del Rio and Ricardo confronts AJ Lee, he calls Booker T a coward, says he doesn’t want to compete till SummerSlam. AJ says she doesn’t have him booked for tonight. Del Rio sighs in relief saying he thought she was going to do something crazy. This catches her attention. She books him in a match, and it’s next. Ay caramba!
Captain Charisma is the ring as a hastily prepared Del Rio makes his way to the ring. Cole questions if Del Rio even had time to stretch.
