The NBA image problem: Who really is to blame?

By Michael Illiano

Before I go on my usual knock on today's game, I want to give a history lesson. This is not the first time that NBA Commissioner David Stern has had problems with the image of his league. In the 1970's, the league was going through all sorts of issues. It was coming off the era of Jerry West, Bill Russell, and Wilt Chamberlain and was struggling.

Exclusive: Ralph Nader on Politics, Tim Donaghy, and Sports in America

Ralph Nader is a former Presidential candidate and one of the most prominent politicians of his generation, but no one would know it. While he is cool, calm, collected, and always sharply dressed, Nader is essentially what all politicians are not—aware, concerned, and for the people.

Mike Dunleavy: You're Fired!

Los Angeles Clippers fans (all five of them and Bill Simmons) can now rejoice. Former Clippers Head Coach and most recently, their GM, Mike DumbDunleavy has been fired by Donald "I swear I'm not racist. I just get sued a lot" Sterling.

Apparently, Mr. Dunleavy is shocked, appalled, and other adjectives to describe the aforementioned words.

Maybe it was his six-and-half miserable seasons as coach, leading LA to a 215-325 record and just one miraculous playoff run in 2006. That's just a guess though.

NJ Nets' Kryptonite to losing? The NY Knicks

My buddy Joe Pompa aka "Turtle from Entourage only 1,000 times more miserable on a regular basis" had this to say about Saturday night's game between the Knicks and Nets. Keep in mind, Mr. Pompa is a Knicks fan...

9:13 pm: I want (Mike) D'Antoni's head after this game

9:49 pm: T-Mac (Tracy McGrady) better be hurt if he's not playing

9:50 pm: You lose a close game to the Nets, still unacceptable, but tolerable. Blown out? Not [expletive] happening.

Needless to say Pomp wasn't happy.

Rodney Stuck update

Detroit Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey collapsed during a timeout in a game versus NBA Central rivals the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Pistons strength and conditioning coach Arnie Kander updated Stuckey's state via The Associated Press: "He's doing well," Kander said Saturday morning. "All the tests have come back negative."

"It was a more dramatic this time because it was on TV," Kander said. "I think he's going to be OK. When we talked last night, he sounded normal."
