UFC 228: Woodley vs. Till Card – Welterweight Division Confusion

Tyron Woodley makes his first title defense in over a year against undefeated yet controversial challenger Darren “The Gorilla” Till.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley (18-3-1) steps back into the octagon for the first time since July 29, 2017 to defend his title against Darren Till (17-0-1) in the main event of UFC 228. UFC 228: Woodley vs. Till takes place Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, TX and airs live on pay-per-view.

While Till is extremely talented and undefeated, many MMA fans and pundits feel that Colby Covington (14-1) should be Woodley’s challenger. Long-story short, Covington defeated Rafael Dos Anjos to win the INTERIM welterweight title at UFC 225 on June 9 to setup a champion vs. champion match with Woodley in the fall. Covington needed time to heal up as he was given the indication his fight with Woodley would take place in November. The UFC instead opted to bring Woodley back in September for UFC 228 and subsequently stripped Convington of his newly-won interim title and booked Till for the main event spot instead. This is the same Till who most recently missed weight by three-and-a-half pounds before fighting Stephen Thompson in May.

Does all that make sense to you? Not really? OK, we’re all on the same page now.
