WWE No Mercy 2017: John Cena vs. Roman Reigns Official

According to WWE.com, the dream matchup of John Cena vs. Roman Reigns is official for the WWE No Mercy pay-per-view (RAW brand) taking place September 24 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.

The matchup was teased in an in-ring segment and later, the main event of Monday Night RAW last week, which saw Cena and Reigns team up to defeat Samoa Joe and WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz.

Outside of a handful of multi-man matches since 2012, WWE’s top two superstars have largely been kept away from each other. With WWE reportedly building up to the WrestleMania 34 end destination of Brock Lesnar vs. Reigns, this looks like another opportunity for the company to attempt to get Reigns over as Cena’s heir apparent.

Only time will tell if Reigns ever gets close to Cena’s level in terms of peak drawing power and appeal.

As for No Mercy, this feels way too early and way too minor of an event to book one of the few dream matches WWE has left.

Theoretically, WWE could make this three month program with both men trading victories, culminating in a blowoff match at a much bigger event like Survivor Series. However, with a busy film schedule for Cena on the horizon that includes “Transformers,” this feud could likely end as a “one and done.”
