WWE SmackDown Live – October 10, 2017
Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, MI

The Usos discussed their WWE Tag Team Championship win at HIAC. The New Day confronted the Usos in the ring. Both teams showed mutual respect before the SmackDown tag team division interrupts, leading SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan to book a fatal four way to determine the next number one contenders.

Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin def. Breezango, Hype Bros. and The Ascension to become the number one contenders for the Usos’ WWE Tag Team Championships. This was a fun match that saw Benjamin get the pin on Tyler Breeze.

Chaos spilled backstage as WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Natalya insulted Charlotte and Ric Flair, leading to a big pull-apart brawl also involved Tamina, Lana, Carmella, Naomi, and Becky Lynch.

Becky Lynch def. Ms. Money in The Bank Carmella w/ James Ellsworth via armbar submission. They sure know how to keep Ms. MITB strong. Happy Lynch won a rare singles match though.

Sami Zayn revealed why he helped Kevin Owens to beat Shane McMahon at HIAC. Zayn said he felt welcome on SmackDown, the land of opportunity, until he realized he was overlooked. Zayn said Shane didn’t care about the McMahon name at HIAC. He cared about ending KO’s career or worse. Zayn said KO has been his friend and rival, but that most importantly, KO is his brother. Zayn thanks KO for knocking sense into him a couple weeks ago and from this point forward, he’s done being the guy that comes to work with a smile on his face, waiting for his opportunity. Both men embrace and raise each other’s hands in comical fashion in weird but entertaining and intriguing segment you should go out of your way to see.

Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton def. Rusev and Aiden English when Nakamura pinned English with the Kinsasha. Perfectly fine tag team match that gets Nakamura back on track for now. WWE Champion Jinder Mahal and the Singh Bros. no where to be found.

Luke Harper and Erick Rowan vignette. This looked so wacky, but I’m all for Harper in a relevant role again.

Boring segment with Dolph Ziggler and his incredibly straight blonde hair rejecting Bobby Roode’s rematch, which of course, leads to them wrestling next week. This feud would be the worst in WWE if not for Bray Abigail Wyatt vs. Finn Balor.

WWE United States Championship: Baron Corbin (c) def. AJ Styles to retain the U.S. Title. Corbin pinned Styles clean with the End of Days. Styles made Corbin look like a million bucks. Post-match Renee Young interviewed Corbin who said he could sail a ship with all the fans’ tears and absolutely loves it. Strong ending to a good, newsworthy show!
